I had the chance to sit down with the Red Barrel Studios' Philippe Morin and test out the sequel to their smash hit horror game Outlast. I was a huge fan of the first game so I went into this demo with high hopes, and was not disappointed. You play as investigative journalist Blake Langermann who is working with his wife, Lynn, investigating the mysterious death of a pregnant woman in the middle of the Arizona desert. The beginning of the demo throws you into what sounds like a car accident, and when you awake your wife is missing. Frantically, you start knocking on doors in what seems like a ghost town. You see a mysterious figure in the distance who quickly dissipates into the darkness, where you then come across a mysterious well, and against my better judgement, I peaked in it and was met with a giant tongue-like monstrosity that dragged me down into it.
The demo ends with us running from a group of crazed villagers and falling down a hill. I thought I was safe then, and as Blake puts on his glasses, he sees an extremely thin, pale skin creature covered in torn rags holding a pick axe. The creature swings the pick axe and hits Blake in his uh...yeah…then kicking him in the face,
I was extremely impressed with what I have seen so far of Outlast II and can’t wait to get my hands on it this fall.
