Artist of the Week: Hirozaku "Hip" Tanaka

Hirozaku "Hip" Tanaka, sometimes referred to as Chip Tanaka, is an accomplished Chiptune artist. For those who are unfamiliar, Chiptune music is music created through synthesizers from computers, video games, and emulators. This unique style that was once the only choice for video game music has since garnered a large-scale appreciation among men and women who still enjoy those original 8-bit sounds.

Tanaka is among the oldest people creating Chiptune and boasts an impressive amount of fantastic songs spanning the last 3 decades. Tanaka worked on such classics as Tetris, Metroid, Kid Icarus, Dr. Mario, and the unforgettable original soundtrack to Earthbound.

"Game is love, game is life."

With the sudden passing of Mr. Satoru Iwata, Tanaka took it upon himself to create a tribute to their work together and Iwata's legacy, which is available for free on Soundcloud. The weaving of classic, recognizable songs from games Iwata produced is a faithful and endearing omage from one influential creative mind to another. Check it out, as well as his other work, below.
